The purpose of VAT is to provide sharing, learning and working experience in amateur Theatre for those residents of the Villages interested in participation in its activities and productions. Its aim is to enable residents to learn about and participate in every aspect of Theatre, including play selection, acting, lighting, costume making, publicity and set construction. It also offers residents of the Villages an opportunity to enjoy productions of both well-known and less frequently seen plays and musicals.
VAT currently supports
Stage Productions: Major productions are scheduled for the Spring and Fall with paid admission and reserved seating. Typically, one performance a year is a Musical.
Matinee Theatre Productions: Free performances with open seating are scheduled periodically. Memorization of lines is not required. Sets, props, costumes and rehearsals are minimal. A great training ground for budding thespians.
Scenes: A new acting workshop created especially for beginners who want to try acting for the first time, as well as for those who would like to refresh or sharpen their skills. Residents will work with short scenes from familiar movies, TV shows, and comedies—such as Casablanca, A Few Good Men, The Carol Burnett Show, and Seinfeld. Small groups rehearse together, try out character choices, and learn core acting skills without the pressure of memorizing long lines or performing for a live audience. There are no public performances; the focus is on building skills and confidence, especially for those who might someday want to audition for a VAT production.
